it’s only been 4 days!

this week has been hectic but so far so good! (ha, my status on FB! DOH!)  my new adventure is as an AA in a dialysis center and this is one of the largest centers out of the 1500 throughout the U.S.  in the past 4 days i have learned so many NEW things my eyes started to get cock-eyed o_O.. holy shit!  my brain hurts from comprehending (at least trying to) the terminology that they use in the facility.  OMG, even the smallest abbreviations made me scratch my head and say “huh?”  for example:  MWF obviously stood for Monday, Wednesday, Friday. OK. but then i see TTS and had a confused look on my face, but then the light went on…duh, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.  typically, Thursday is TH but to simplify it even further, it became just T.  and when discussing the schedule for the week or upcoming week(s) they speak with just the “letters”, like a foreign language.. LOL!  then there are the computer programs i have to learn and what i can or cannot say to a patient.  trying to associate a name with a pt (pt = patient - ha - learned that one pretty quick).  trying to associate a name with the pct (pct = patient care technician - had to learn that one pretty quick too!) ^_^  oh then remembering my employee number when i punch in and out, shoot making sure i remember to punch in and out.  oh and answering the phones too!  tomorrow i get to sit in on “how to register a patient”..the paperwork alone is a lot to fathom, but i’ll get see how it is when i (yes, me) would actually have to sit down with a patient before they can begin their first treatment..this ought to be interesting.  blanca, my trainer, said she actually sits down with the PT and provides them a little explanation on all the forms that we’re allowed to discuss with them, to sort of ease them into the process because dialysis is not a simple treatment.  whereas another person would just say “sign on the dotted line, one of the PCT’s will come and get you when your chair is ready”, a little blah, huh!

this past week was more like an overview of all the things i will be handling, assisting, etc.,. thank god i don’t have to deal with insurance - that’s confusing enough!  and so far most of my new co-workers are pretty easy-going and not so intimidating - i already get along with a few of the guys, ha ha, go figure! my persona at it’s best..LOL!
